Crane-Based Launch System (CBLS)

- Diving Suit Deployment System

Russian CBLS in Operation - Click to Enlarge ODIM Brooke Ocean has delivered four crane-based launch systems to Oceanworks, to be used to deploy and recover the HARDSUIT™ atmospheric diving systems. These systems were supplied to the Russia Navy as part of a major investment in submarine escape and rescue equipment, made in the wake of the Kursk submarine disaster.

The CBLS is self-contained, air-transportable and mounted on an ISO container base, allowing for easy shipment and installation on vessels of opportunity. The CBLS consists of a folding knuckle boom marine crane with integral winch, load latch, overboarding sheave, tether sheave and electro-hydraulic power unit with redundant pump/motor.

The winch lowers a load latch down the HARDSUIT™ tether. When it reaches the HARDSUIT, it passively latches to a lift bullet on the suit. The latch is hydraulically released.

Overhoisting is avoided with an anti-two-block switch on the overboarding sheave.

Safe handling of the umbilical is accomplished with the specially-designed roller sheave.

The LARS operates in up to sea state 3 conditions. The entire system folds within the footprint of an ISO 10 ft. container.
