![]() BOT PRESS RELEASE: JANUARY 1999BROOKE OCEAN TECHNOLOGY LIMITED (BOT) IS PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE SALES OF ITS MOVING VESSEL PROFILER (MVP™) TO AS GEOCONSULT OF NORWAY AND NIPPON KAIYO OF JAPAN. Geoconsult has installed an MVP200™ (capable of reaching 200 m at 12 knots and 330 m at 5 knots) on the multibeam survey vessel SV Geograph. Following a recently completed pipeline survey in the Baltic, Geoconsult stated that:
"Without a system like the MVP200™, it would have been impossible to perform a multibeam echosounder survey in the southern part of the Baltic! Extreme changes in the sound velocity profile necessitated a dip every 5 minutes to ensure correct velocity in the echosounder! When at the same time towing four other sensors, it would have been impractical to do this manually. During the first week we made 500+ dips (automatically - but verified by the operator) in water depths ranging from 13 to 100 metres with a success rate of 98%."Nippon, BOT's representative in Japan, recently placed an order for an MVP300™ (capable of reaching 300 m at 12 knots and 850 m at 5 knots). This unit, scheduled for delivery in mid-1999, will be used to collect CTD data aboard Nippon's survey vessel and will double as a demonstrator for the Japanese market. The MVP™ is an underway sound velocity profiling system which permits near vertical data profiles to be collected with the use of a recoverable free fall fish. The system includes a computer-controlled smart winch and deployment system that permits the free fall fish to be deployed while the vessel is underway. MVP™ is completely automated, can be operated by computer without the requirement for personnel on deck, and provides real time SV input into a multi-beam. The free fall fish can also be equipped with a variety of sensors, including a CTD. For multibeam surveys, MVP™ saves a minimum of 3 hours per day of ship time by eliminating the requirement to stop and complete a static cast. Significant savings in data processing can be realized through improved data quality. In Canada, MVP™ is in service with the Canadian Hydrographic Service to collect SV profiles for a Kongsberg Simrad EM1000 multibeam. A second unit in service with Fisheries and Oceans Canada carries a CTD, fluorometer, and prototype laser optical plankton counter. BOT is a Canadian based manufacturer of sensor platforms, cable handling systems, and launch/recovery systems. They are represented in Europe and the US by MacArtney AS and are exhibiting with MacArtney at booth #45. For further information please contact:
