 BOT PRESS RELEASE: JUNE 1998AS GEOCONSULT WILL IMPROVE EFFICIENCY AND QUALITY OF MULTIBEAM SURVEY THROUGH THE ACQUISITION OF A MOVING VESSEL PROFILER (MVP™) Brooke Ocean Technology Ltd (BOT) of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada are pleased to announce the sale of a Moving Vessel Profiler™ 200 meter system (MVP200™) to AS GEOCONSULT for use in conjunction with multibeam surveys.  The MVP200™ is a computer controlled system which can collect near vertical profiles of the water column from a moving vessel with a reusable free fall fish. It consists of a hydraulic winch, overboarding davit, control system, free fall fish, conductor cable and sensor (typically a CTD or sound velocity sensor).The MVP™ family of systems includes the MVP200™, which collects profiles to 200 m at a vessel speed of 12 knots and 330 m at 5 knots. Profiles can be collected automatically with only a single operator. Operation in higher sea states is possible because of the implementation of automated control and the natural decoupling of the sensor from the vessel during its free fall descent. The MVP200™ will improve survey efficiency by allowing the collection of sound velocity or CTD data without stopping the vessel, thus saving ship time. Additional benefits include savings in post processing time and the ability to increase multibeam survey line spacing. The quality of the resulting survey data will be improved because there will no longer be a need to "assume" water properties during the data processing stage of data manipulation. The MVP™ has been developed jointly by BOT and the Bedford Institute of Oceanography. The contract was awarded through Brooke Ocean Technology's Norwegian representative MacArtney A/S.
