These new facilities place ODIM in a strong position to support our strategy in the Canadian defence, oil and gas, and oceanographic markets”, said Andy Roy. Halifax is the center for the Canadian Navy Atlantic. It is also the location of the world renowned Bedford Institute of Oceanography (BIO). In addition, Halifax is 1.5 hours away from the multi billion dollar offshore oil and gas development in Newfoundland.

In honouring its long time partners in industry and government, ODIM Brooke Ocean dedicated two of its boardrooms to the Bedford Institute and the Navy’s Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) and officially called them the BIO Room and the DRDC Room.

“With these new facilities ODIM Brooke Ocean can now add capacity with experience and knowledge”, says Geoff Lebans, Director. ODIM Brooke Ocean developed the first Canadian Navy Helicopter Hanger Crane system under contract to Fleetway and is presently deeply involved with an Expendable Mine Neutralization System (EMNS) project headed by Lockheed Martin.

This new space provides an excellent work area for our employees and facilitates a more efficient working environment”, says Mark Smith, ODIM Brooke Ocean Services Manager.

Indeed the future looks both bright and challenging for ODIM Brooke Ocean. They are a world class team with a world class product and service…. and a building to match!

Since being acquired in 2006, ODIM Brooke Ocean has been a very busy place.

So busy in fact that it was bursting at the seams, literally. In 2006 there were 30 employees. This was a great team with an innovative product and an excellent service that was very strategic and well positioned to be part of the ODIM business plan. What a difference two years makes!

ODIM Brooke Ocean has now grown to 60 employees. The company is still focused on its core competencies of manufacturing advanced data collection systems including: Moving Vessel Profiler (MVP), SeaHorse wave-powered profiler, Free Fall Cone Penetrometer (FFCPT), Laser Optical Plankton Counter (LOPC). They also supply launch and recovery systems for payloads including unmanned vehicles, oceanographic sensors, towed bodies, and manned submersibles as well as engineering services.

Only now, with expanding and demanding markets it became necessary to expand to facilitate a more effective production environment. In June, after nearly a year of customizing and renovating an older building, the team moved into the new 2,100m2 facilities in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

After two months, the bugs are worked out and the production lines are off and running”, says Arnold Furlong, Managing Director. “Moving from our small office facilities to this new building has been almost as challenging as growing from 30 to 60 employees” says Arnold. However, the group seems to have accomplished the mammoth task with what one might call... “The ODIM spirit”.
